Lots of smoke south of exit 80. My wife reports the Intermediate School in Beachwood is being evacuated. Many fire trucks from outside Beachwood have headed south. Anyone know more about this?

We live a couple miles from that area, just got home and passed close to it near Dbl Trbl SP. Didn't find out about the fire till we were home. No smoke. There have been evacuations, but the schools have kept the kids in. Got a couple of Nixle alerts from Berkeley Twnshp, but nothing local. Hoping all is well over there, wind is really ripping.

Latest via JSHN;

BERKELEY WILDFIRE UPDATE: The latest from the Berkeley Township Police Department at 3:15 p.m.:

* The fire, burning in the area of Grand Central Parkway and Northern Boulevard, is estimated at 300 acres. It is not contained.
* Evacuations in the area of the fire have been conducted. BTPD and the Ocean County Sheriff's Department have notified the impacted area and are ready to assist.
* The evacuation along the area of Continental Avenue and surrounding streets is being done as a precaution due to back fires and shifting winds.
* Several homes sustained some damage but were not total losses.
* No injuries have been reported.

I was just viewing it from the county park at Jakes Branch. Chris Hewey lives very near where it is burning and he's getting embers in his yard and hosing his roof.

The one at Dbl Trbl is picking up speed; there is also one reported in Manchester. JSHN has the most recent reports. My nephew is working the one in Berkeley, he heard that the FFS cannot get to the one at Dbl Trbl, that place is loaded with fuel, as are most of the areas around here, thanks to the 2012 storm called Sandy.

Thank you, Bob and Mike . It is much better now. All of the fire trucks have left my street. It felt like the day of the Jake's Branch fire all over again.

Double troubles a little too close for comfort over here.

I was always on the lookout for the one bound to hit that park. It is thick with unburned vegetation for miles. The homes sitting on Lacey road would be in serious jeopardy with a strong north or northeast wind.

This could have been a real mess. Terrific work by NJFFS and other fire companies. Hoping any rain comes early and heavy.
