NORTHFIELD -- Police are investigating a possible bear sighting within Birch Grove Park in Northfield.
Northfield Police are working with the NJ Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife to confirm the animal. An adult and juvenile were jogging in the park when they saw what they believed was a bear crossing a jogging trail into the woods shortly after 5 p.m. The animal was described as blackish-red and 3 to 4 feet tall, walking on all fours,“The animal did not make any advances. It just went about its business,” Capt. Arthur Faden said.
Authorities are urging residents to be cautious in the area and to secure their home garbage containers.
To report a sighting, please call the Northfield Police Department at (609) 641-2832. I am sure with the fires and lack of rain we will hear of more sightings.
