I'm sure alot of you have seen it, but, While out in the Plastic Bridge area, closer to the intersection of Raritan & Sandy Causeway Rds, I stumbled upon a rather unique looking thing hanging in a tree. I jotted down some info on the label & here is what it is.

Cool. On the last PBX outing, we came across a number of what we believe to be some sort of insect traps. Maybe one of the guys will post a picture.

Pinepaddler, were they drift fence type traps? FPP, in the past has had insect drift fences out there. One time when I went there was only dead fowlers toads in them.

Bob has the actual part and can take a photo of it. It was certainly home made by someone who knew what they were doing. I did not take a photo of it, but I think I will be going back the next time I am in the area to look around more.

Here is a quick drawing I made of it from memory. It is wood and the person milled or flat bottom drilled three holes in the front of it for a cavity. Then he put a screen across it and stapled it. The staples are the dark lines holding the screen over the cavity. The hole in the side was where the bug entered. One had a plastic tube in it. One had the small hole on one side, and others had it on both side.

I make things like that for a living. I used the program I use at work to draw it. It isn't designed for looks, rather for dimensions.

Anyway, lets see what opinions come forward.

All,

Some of you may remember us trying to figure out what the wooden screened item was that Bob has a photo of in post 8. We discovered it on our PBX Chatsworth North Hike in 11/08. I have added that photo to this post here.

We came up with a Beetle trap and I believe Woodjin in a later post mentioned this item also. In any event, Bob found this video today which shows us exactly what it is. The item is shown just after 1:06 so look this photo over and keep a watch in the video.
