I just got this via email by Linda Stanton, who is putting this together:

March 12th.

The event is open to the public and FREE. The signing is from 3:00-4:30 PM. Some books will be available. We encourage people to bring their own to get signed as well. It is a cash, check and carry event. We are not set up for charges. This is not a money maker but a rare opportunity to meet some of the better known personalities of the Pine Barrens.

For people with the heart that I have (a pine barrens romantic, hopelessly sentimental about our pines), A Pine Barren's Odyssey is the best book I have ever read on the pines.

Isn't that the one you are mentioned in Bob :) Or is it one of his others?

I like Chapter 32.....an amazing place!

No, Howard mentions me in the preface to "Wildflowers of the Pine Barrens". Howard is a good man, cut from the old cloth. Computers passed him by, and when we correspond we do it by letter. He writes it out in cursive style. Very neat and comfortably old-fashioned. Did you know he was very big in the Boy Scout organization? His real specialy is entemology. He is a tiger beetle expert too.

I asked because I would like to go if I have time & it is right around the corner from my Uncle's on the river. It would be nice to meet anyone from NJPB. I only have Pearce's book (2nd edition) I picked up at the Seaport a few years back. I've bumped around in two or three of the others that I just transferred from local libraries. The only other signed book I have relevant to the area is a Peterson, I happened to be at Borders for it, and I always loved his write ups in the newspapers.

Book Signing

Hi Everyone!!

My name is Linda and I organized this event because I want more folks to appreciate those who know so much about it. It is FREE beacuse of this reason. ALL of the authors are very excited about the signing. I have just recently spoken with each. They assure me they will have enough books available.

Please, please join us on Sunday and meet all of these wonderful people. They are truly treasures of the Pine Barrens!!! Howard Boyd is 92. Marilyn just turned 77 and Budd will be 72 in a few weeks. We have so much to learn from them and time is a wastin'. We don't know when such an opportunity will ever again present itself. All these people will be in one room waiting to meet YOU!! They are not getting paid to be there, either.

I make NO money on this project and want it to be a success for those who have given us so much! Please help me to do this and come and meet the authors even if you don't bring a book to be signed or don't purchase one there.

Do you know that Marilyn Schmidt has NEVER had a book signing? She has had book signings in her store for other authors though!! And, there is a chance her new book will be available on Sunday!!!!

I am hoping that this event will be popular and that we will do others on the Pine Barrens... music...folklore...crafts and collecting...wildlife...etc. If you are interested in any or in participating in one, please contact me privately.

If you are able to be there on Sunday please take the time to find me. I will be the short one looking clueless!!! Thanks!!!

Ben, thanks for inviting me to post. Hope you don't regret it!! LOL

All,
I was out there today at 3:00 sharp. Had a wonderfull time. Louise and Donna were a pleasure to talk to. John P. was magnificent. Paul Schoppe was by far a favorite as he has helped me in the past on a personal project and continues to fascinate me. Perhaps I missed everone or no one was there, whichever.I introduced myself to 30 or so persons and had great dialogue with all. I was fortunate to reunite with a party that owns a lot on the Nescochague lake. Lot going on with that right now. I enjoyed it for years and now it seems that it is in danger of a draining.Had a Whiskey and an Applejack and left dying of the smells from the kitchen.
Sorry if I missed anyone. Well tonight it's all about Soprano's !!!
Yes I'm one of them that's mercilessly hooked.
See ya !
