Use this thread to report connectivity or other problems with the app or site. I will also post updates here on any site maintenance or upgrades.

Note: To keep this thread short, most problem reports will be deleted after they are resolved.

Event Summary:
boydsmaps.com went down at 7:30 PM on Friday, March 29 and came back up at 9:00 PM on Tuesday, April 2 with full restoration of all content by 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 4.

To make a long story short, the hosting company rushed into migrating the site to a new server without advance discussion, as we had planned. I calculated their method would take over two weeks due to the very large amount of data and slow interface on the old server - something they apparently didn't consider.

It became clear that the fastest way to restore the site would be to do it myself since my internet is more than 10 times faster than their connection to the old server (the new server is much faster). The site consists of two terabytes of data and 73 million files, which made things difficult. Basically, the process was like rebuilding a house, brick by brick. :D

But we're back now, on a faster server with three terabytes of disk - plenty of room for new maps!

Quick FYI: over the next couple days I'll be gradually uploading/installing more NAIP 2023 aerials to match the new coverage area of the Northeast LIDAR map. Lots of data, around 300gb (~2.5 million map tiles). The new server has more processors and a faster interface, so I doubt that you will even notice the activity. However, part of the installation will involve deleting some map tiles and replacing them with new ones. This could cause you to get some errors when accessing these aerials. Just try again later if that happens.

Am working on this today, so you might experience problems accessing the NAIP aerials at times. The interruptions should be brief and installation will be completed today, will make another post at that time.

Yes - sorry, I first learned about this a couple hours ago via e-mail and couldn't figure it out. Went out for a long walk and dug deeper into the log files when I returned. I screwed up a configuation file earlier today in the process of blocking some of the hackers who are constantly probing the site. The result was blocking a large range of internet addresses, including just about all of comcast!

I believe it has now been fixed. Please reply here and let me know if it works.

Boyd, I want to take this opportunity to ask you to consider a feature in the future that I would find very useful. Maybe it can already be done, but I have not figured it out. I'm working in 3 different areas this year. It would be great to have a "go to" button that can show a user-created drop down list containing several places in the state I'm interested in...and when I click on a place, it goes there instantaneously. Now, when I want to see something where I'm working in Cape May (when I'm currently in, say, Forked River)...I have to zoom out and drag the map down to Cape May.

Sounds like you're asking for a "bookmark" feature? You could already do this by creating waypoints for your favorite places, then just click the flag button to access them. If you use waypoints in a different way, that might not be a good solution however.

My focus this year will be creating more maps of the Northeast US region to make the site more useful for a larger audience. So, I doubt I'll be adding a new feature like this, sorry. It would involve a lot of new code and probably have limited overall appeal.

I'll check into the waypoint figure. It may not interfere with my regular waypoints.

I just tried it. Works well. I'll have to revisit when I upload a passel of waypoints to manipulate and see if I'm hindered. Probably will be ok. I just didn't know if you clicked on one far away the screen would reorient.
