Here is a map I have received via a email today. First time uploading to this site hopefully works.

They are seeking volunteers as well !

Mike

"The gray and yellow shaded areas on the map are scheduled to be prescribed burned this winter by NJ Forest Fire Service. Little or no broom crowberry occurs in these areas, so mixed intensity burning can be used without impact to broom crowberry populations. The hotter burns will quickly reduce brush density and wildfire hazard in these pine plains areas near the Range which have not burned since 1971.

The blue lines on the map are firebreaks 8-24 ft wide which were recently cut with a gyrotrac unit. These firebreaks will allow the prescribed burns planned this winter to be excluded from concentrated broom crowberry areas.

The red outlined areas (Sites A, B and C) are ecological forestry sites planned for this fall/winter in and around broom crowberry sites. Additional adjacent sites are planned for cutting next year, pending additional funding grants. Pine plains brush and litter will be reduced here by cutting and slash removal. The dwarf pines and shrub oak will resprout after cutting, so this forestry will only open the broom crowberry habitats temporarily. But the ecological forestry cuts will make it easier to burn these habitats with the low intensity fires which broom crowberry can survive, and the light fires will maintain the open pine plains habitat.

If you are interested in volunteering on the broom crowberry project, we are seeking volunteers to assist with the hand removal of cut pine plains brush and moving to brush piles, to minimize impacts to the broom crowberry plants. We hope to start with this work shortly."
