WINSLOW TOWNSHIP - Officials say a feral dog, not a cougar or bear, slashed open a thoroughbred on a New Jersey farm in Camden County last week.
Fourteen-year-old Buddy was attacked Friday night on the stomach and back while in a pasture at the Double D Ranch in Winslow Township.
Horse owner Anjel Barrone and police wondered if the horse was a victim of a big cat, or even a bear. Police in the area have had reports of a cougar roaming the fringes of the Philadelphia suburbs.
The state Environmental Protection Department says the pattern of wounds on Buddy's stomach suggest the horse was attacked by a feral dog.
