Canoe Cedar Creek

The Forked River Mountain Coalition will sponsor their 19th annual canoe trip down Cedar Creek on Saturday, May 25, 2013.

This trip will consist of a run down the lower portion of the creek. They will depart Double Trouble State Park at the bridge in the park village at 10:30 am and return approximately 3:00 pm. The put-out is Dudley Park just off of route 9.

A donation of $15 per person is requested. There is a three (3) person limit per canoe. Bring lunch, drink, insect repellent, suntan lotion, hat or sunglasses. Long pants and sneakers are recommended. No alcohol. We will provide canoes, life preservers and transportation back to Double Trouble State Park. Bushwaker, I edited the post. They are doing the lower portion of the creek. Mickey is starting at the park village bridge and stopping at Dudley Park near route 9.

awesome creek! I started at Bamber and went down to Lanoka harbor.clear as crytal and in places looked to be eight feet deep.would be a good tubing stream.

Yes it is! My favorite little river in the pines. I know it is one of the cleanest water ways in the pines, but it also has to be one of the clearest also. The clarity is unreal somedays! Like you say Al, 8 foot deep and you can see clear to the bottom on the right day! I have spent much time in the past 26 years Canoeing, Swimming, fishing, and hunting Cedar Creek. I'm thankful that I have such a nice little river minutes from my door step! No place I would rather be than on the Cedar on a summer evening in my canoe!

Yes, sir! The weekends can get bad from Dover Forge to Western Blvd now! Another livery and the creek will be plugged on the weekends! I avoid this by limiting my paddles to friday evening paddles in the summer. I break it into three trips. Lacey Rd.-Dover Forge, Dover Forge-Ore pond, and Ore Pond-Dudley Park. I rarely see another boat at that time with putting in and starting my paddles at 4:00pm-5:00pm and taking out at just about dark. Althought it is only a few hour paddle, you can do Lacey Rd-Dover Forge on a Saturday and not see another boat more times than not.

Hewey and I paddled from Bamber to Route 9 over the course of 3 trips last summer. I've fallen in love the ol' Cedar. The water certainly is clear too. This summer I'm going to have to bring my goggles and find a nice spot to sit on the bottom of the river and forget the world above the surface.

Gabe, you need to get a scuba tank and lay on the bottom for a couple of hours. Who knows what will pass by.

Looks like decent weather. Seems like everytime there's a get-together I have prior arrangements. Enjoy the trip and Id bring those shades, even if its just too keep the pollen at bay from your eyes.

I did it in one trip and it was an all dayer.I'd like to take more time the next time.
I read somewhere that Cedar creek and manumuskin creek are the two most pristine creeks in nj as far as water quality goes.

That is a difficult access. You should drop your canoe off where the bridge crosses Lacey Road. Put the canoe in on the northeast side. You can drive either direction on Lacy until the signs saying no parking run out, then park on the side of the road. I don't think you'll be bothered. If you are hesitant, you can park at the southern beach on Bamber Lake off Lake Road.

Not sure I'd put a canoe in at Lacey Rd (kayak maybe). I did it on a hunting trip in early Jan. and there was tons of debis and downed branches/trees from Sandy. Perhaps someone has cleared the way since then, but Im unsure. The liveries dont start their trips that far up so no one really cuts the creek clear. A better bet would be taking lacey road to dover road and put in at the canoe access dirt rd about 2 miles down the road. There is a big wooden sign that reads "cedar creek canoe access." That will still give you a nice ride to the forge, but a little shorter.

Yes, forgot about Sandy. But, putting in at the canoe access only gives you 1/2 mile to the forge. You would be done in 15 minutes--a real short trip.

My son, cousins and friends paddle from White Bridge at Double Trouble S.P. to the old RR trestle in Berkeley every September. Cedar Creek definitely has the most trash of any river I've paddled in the pines (especially east of the GSP).

In years past, we have put in at Dover Forge (very narrow & twisty with lots of blockages) or Ore Pond (much easier paddling).

Cedar Creek is a much shorter drive for us North Jersey bennies!
