Ro & I and Bernie & Doreen Knaupp enjoyed the Cedar Bridge re-enactment this afternoon. Beautiful weather joined by an MC of the re-enactment who did a superb job. The re-enactors included ones from CT and MA who demonstrated their weapons. A good size audience gave them well- deserved applause. Great history lesson given in fascinating fashion. We were also involved in a most informative discussion with Tim Hart about the inn, its features, and restoration/investigation programs.
Not there? You missed a great performance.

Did they do a tour of the hotel?

The building was open to the public during the entire event, and staff were there to answer questions and talk about the various maps and documents that were displayed. It was a shame that so few reenactors were there but weekdays are always difficult for them. Consideration is being given to holding the event on weekends in the future, rather than on the historic day of the skirmish, in order to make it more convenient for visitors and attract more reenactors.

Is it normally open, or only on special events?

Just events such as this and for scheduled group tours, like school trips and the like. The county has been going through the long and arduous process of getting the structure listed, applying for grants and properly restoring it. It is still a ways from being able to be open to the public on a regular basis, if staffing even allows that. Few staff vacancies have been filled in recent years and the effects of Sandy on the tax base have not even been fully realized.
