Small towns only remain charming small towns while they are small. A bunch of people moving in and it will be another Medford. This sort of advertising is hurting the pine barrens culture.
I'd have to take issue with that Mike. There are plenty of areas which haven't yet been "destroyed by development". I spent the better part of a year learning about them before buying my present home in 2006.
But that stereotype (just like many other NJ stereotypes) doesn't really bother me. It helps keep people away from the remaining nice places
