update to your reply on my howardsville trip, smiliies representing the different sections of my 10/24/06 trip.smiley1,went to see clarks landing graves, ive been here in the late 70s before wanted to show my trusted friend george.walked the path, and on the way we saw the typical trash, also beer cans, whiskey bottles, ignored on the way,got to the little bridge, had to walk on the left strut holding on to reeds,50 percent of the bridge is collaped to the mullica side, alittle strut is all remains to get you across, george got a wet foot, saw the graves inscriptions deteriorating, just could read.i wish that little bridge could be repaired.on the way back,we investigated the trash, and george found an unopened 12 pack of miller lite, nice and cold, there is one less can in this case.wonder if it was a geocache????proceeded back to clarks landing road, took a right turn went to bremmen ave.made a left looking for any signs or clues to gloucester furnace, nothing, saw one road blocked off to the right, where there is a sign saying eyren haven, did not get out the car, next time will walk landing creek fromm clarks landing road to where indian cabin road crosses landing creek, for any traces of slag.made a right on indian cabin road to visit the shaler grave in back of egg harbor city lake, her and her three children are buried there, stone was restored in 1964,burial was in 1784.proceeded down indian cabin across rt.563 to the abandoned boy scout camp, what a mess, pentagrams, graffiti, place is still standing(different buildings)there was also a dummy body hanging from one of the buildings(Creepy).now for the unsmiling smilie of the trip, after the camp went south on rt.563to moss mill road, made right, toward elwood,we really wanted to see the old amotol race track outline, biggest no trespass signs, prosecution signs i have ever seen in pa.or n.j,site is maybe 50 to 100 yards off of moss mill road, private property is one of our most respected rights, but my question is,why didnt the state or county,or the township try to make this site a park or preserve, isnt this historic, the railroad(Pennsy) used to have trips to this racetrack,80,000 people would be at this track on raceday?does anyone know anyone from this gunclub so oneday we could have a looksee at this place?to end on a smilie, our last stop was winslow junction, alot of old cars, one was the texas and mexican railway, how great it would be to see the blue comet coming through here on its way to atlantic city.my dad told me stories of it when he used to go to lbi to surf fish in the 30s with his friends.lionel offered a o gauge version in i think 1993 for 1300 bucks.after winslow, the heat went on ,and me and george went on our way via 561 and 73 back to phila.might make a trip during the week to bear swamp hill, and pomeroy crossroads, never been to pomeroys,is it carable?thanks, jim
