Definitely a cool bug. It is in the Lethocerus genus.

Is that whats called a backswimmer?Or a water boatmen? The bugs you see skittling across the surface of water? If so I hear they can give a nasty bite but I"ve never been fast enough to catch one to find out.

It's a Giant Water Bug aka Toe Biter.
We've had them come into the lights when we're doing Moth Nights at Franklin Parker Preserve.
