We were at 539 and 72 today and there was a cop car with flashing lights getting information from a driver after a traffic stop. But it sure did not look like a cop to me. We were really concerned for the driver. Look what he was wearing and the car he had. It had flashing lights but really not convincing lights to me. Click to make larger. It is taken from my dash cam.

In any event, watch your driving on 539.

Certainly does seem fishy.

Have the police in your town gone to the black vehicles? I don't like how they do that. We should be able to see them for what they are.

There is another one of the enforcement programs going on that began some time ago due to the number of bad accidents on that road. They also had one on 571 and 527 a while back and more recently a section of RT70. There are members from the Ocean County prosecutors office participating; they do not wear uniforms. Also using automated license late readers and unmarked vehicles.

I heard somewhere that if your ever attempting to he pulled over by someone you're unsure of you can call 911 or drive to the closest police station.

I'm not sure if that's true or an old fable.

I would most likely just call 911 and ask them if it really was a cop. If it was then all is good, and if not the person most likely would take off.

I have read the same thing. Problem if no phone and how does one find a police station. I'd just keep the motor running, window closed, door locked and ask to see their ID, which legit plain clothes LE would show without being asked. If the ID said Powdunk Police Dept, put it in gear and step on the gas.
