It was paved in 2007/2008, vehicle/equipment storage for overflow and parking for fire fighters during wildfires is what I was told.
I am not 100% sure on that part though.

I recall it being cleared, but I wonder why they couldn't do it on their side. I suppose they got a permit for it. I'm wondering though, maybe they are expanding training to others.

Yes. Still there. It appears the area with the vehicles is also fenced in. That area was supposed to be from bomb disposal but it looks like they also are storing more junk there.
