Amatol. I want to visit the munitions plant and, of course, the track. Kinda hard to find?

The plant

The town

My 2020 Topo shows the parts that are public in green. As you can see, quite a bit of it is private.

Apparently the town was recently acquired by the state. A few years ago this area was private. I made this map before the high resolution LIDAR was available, but think it was pretty good, considering. :D It shows all the buildings that were *planned* for the town, but evidently they were not all actually built.

I was talking to an old timer at the shooting range, and he mentioned getting stopped on this road while dirt biking in the '90s, by three men with shotguns. So I searched the forum to see what exists out there. My curiosity will remain unsatisfied...

I knew a kid who went back there one night with a couple of friends and ended up getting a beat-down by a few hicks. This was the early 2000s.

Yeah, the question is why go back there at night? In north NJ the "crazy road" is Clinton Road, which is mostly dangerous because the 35mph speed limit is way too high for a very curvy unlit woods road at night. But so many kids started going there and telling tales of seeing Klansmen on horseback and ghost children if you back up and honk or whatever, that I have a feeling the locals made a game of chasing them away by running through the wood with flashlights. There's a quarry off of Clinton road to go swimming in, but that's about it. Indian Cabin Road looks bare.

Ha! My thoughts exactly! A site like we are talking about in the Pines is the ideal location for kids to hang out in and play pranks on others or make up and exaggerate stories to amuse themselves with. Why on earth would you want to go back to sites like these at night? To tell you the truth, I went there once in full daylight. I was very uncomfortable (I've been all around places like these my whole life and had very few places where I TRULY felt uncomfortable). It felt like someone was watching me intently and that I should not be there. Although there was no one in the area. There are houses nearby down the road, so I think they may be watching for trespassers. It is private property and so, I never went back. If it's private property, it's best to leave it alone. I think the neighbors are keeping an eye out and don't like strangers or trespassers on their road. I can understand that. I find it so funny though that people always seem to want to explore these sites in the dark! That's just idiotic and kids stuff, unless you like the added "drama."

They are just old houses and the floor is rotted through in both of them. I fell through one of the floors! There is a lot of garbage outside but inside they are not tagged up by spray paint and devil symbols like other places
