East Point Lighthouse Break-in

New Jersey State Police are searching for whoever stole about $1,200 worth of merchandise from the second oldest lighthouse in the state. Caretakers say the burglary couldn’t have come at a worse time.
Bins full of souvenirs including t-shirts, mugs, model lighthouses, magnets and more were stolen from the East Point Lighthouse in Maurice River Township, Cumberland County sometime before Sunday morning.
Perhaps more unfortunate than the break-in itself, is the fact that there will now be almost no merchandise available for purchase during the annual Lighthouse Challenge of New Jersey this weekend. East Point, which dates back to 1849, is one of the stops on the tour of the state's lighthouses.

This lighthouse is so secluded, it's no surprise someone did this. They had to know the Challenge was this weekend. There is no other reason to B&E this place. There is nothing there!

Probably my favorite stop on Challenge weekend... they annually have the grill fired up, and (usually) have many tables of souvenirs to peruse, with the lantern room provividing an awesome view of the bay. Hope they do well, despite their misfortune.

They'll be caught, not a very big market for East Point Light stuff except at the light itself. Hopefully, given the situation, those that visit just leave a nice contribution.

Missing were 200 patches, 73 keychains, 182 lapel pins, and 29 T-shirts with drawings of the lighthouse, as well as mugs and models of other New Jersey lighthouses. The society had hoped to raise several thousand dollars to help restore the lighthouse.

I don't understand why someone would do such a thing. The theft doesn't make sense. The list of stolen items is some dope's Ebay store, that is were the police should look. Could it be someone trying to draw attention for the lighthouse? A mixed up do-gooder ?

I love the area. My father used to keep a boat at Matt's landing close by, and it is a cool little secluded spot. Hope they catch the jackasses.
