I've got my hands on a difficult situation here and need help. Ted Gordon is walking, he needs to get out and can't because his GPS is giving him trouble. He can't punch in the coordinates I give him. I know his location.

He is in very heavy brush.

Does anyone have a Garmin 76 map GPS?

Alternatively, need someone who has a truck and knows the area by Skit Branch. I'd go but I have a herniated disc and can't drive my truck

I do not, but I pulled this from the net, hope it helps:
Before manually creating a waypoint on the handheld, make sure that the position format and map datum set on the device matches the position format and map datum of the coordinate to be entered. If these settings are different between the device and original coordinate, the waypoint will not be positioned correctly on the device.

To change the position format and/or map datum setting on the device:

  1. Press Menu twice to reach the main menu
  2. Select Setup
  3. Scroll through the tabs at the top to select the Location tab
  4. Adjust "Position" Format and/or Map Datum
To manually create a waypoint on a GPS 72/76 or a GPSMAP 76/76s:

  1. Press and hold Enter
  2. Wait for the New Waypoint screen
  3. Release Enter
  4. Highlight the coordinates field
  5. Press Enter
  6. Adjust the coordinates as desired with the rocker pad:
    1. Left and Right will cycle between the different coordinate spaces
    2. Up and Down will cycle through characters for the selected space
  7. Press Enter when finished
  8. Alter any other fields as desired
  9. Select OK when everything is set correctly
The waypoint will be saved with the updated information and location.

I need someone who has one to get on the phone with him and talk him through it. I got him through 5, but the numbers are not showing up or something.

My wife as well as Jessica and myself got there after he was found. I was at a Riversharks game at a company outing and did not have my car or I would have left earlier. He ended up by the bridge at the entrance to Quarter Mile.

He lost the GPS and his camera but Jessica and I are going to look for it this weekend. He left clues that will help us know where.

Guy, he won't be looking for it. He'll be preoccupied with the group he is leading. I'll be there too. If you like, I can break off from the group and go look for them. Not a big deal.

I can look then.

I asked him to send me a point on a topo where he believes he left the clue on a tree and I have not heard from him yet. He said it would be hard to find the general location without that. I am hoping he gets back to me before tomorrow morning.

I was out on Saturday and today extensively looking for Ted's items. I did find the handkerchief on a tree where he noticed the items were gone. I also found the location where he called from. So on both yesterday and today I searched between the two and came up empty. It is a really tough area all full of dense vegetation. I doubt it will be found until winter.

Very old cranberry bog on the way there.
