I went exploring an un-named tributary of the Tulpehocken creek today. Must have hit over 5 beaver dams in a fairly short run.

despite all the dams the water was fairly shallow through out.

As I worked my way toward the tulpehocken the tributary became more narrow

Found an old ore bog though

At one point (not near the ore pond) I found a very, very large rock(?) underneath the water, it was too dark at that point for me to see it. It was perhaps the largest piece of bog iron I've ever seen or something else. I'll go back and see if I can figure it out.

A parting shot.

Nice! I bet if the rivers were all dry we would all be surprised how much ore is out there. Finding them always interests me and I know it does you also. Well done!

Uncharted waters, a treasure-trove of ore, and mythical creatures (well, beavers) -- looks like you had a storybook trip on a lovely creek.

The third photo down is a beautiful, classy shot. Doesn't it set you to humming, Jeff? Composing a score? For guitars or a lute? Mmmm? Hope so!

Thanks for sharing!

nope, no fish. The water was very shallow with lots of thick silt. I could see that the water levels have been higher from the water marks on the cedars but I believe the water levels flucuate greatly here. if not for the beaver I believe the water would be nothing more than a small stream running through a savanna. You can get the idea from the 8th picture down.

Me and whip have canoed the tulpe from featherbeds junction with the main branch down to the wading and we walked the main branch down to the featherbed .The branch you were on I have walked parts of it but never had a boat on it.I bet you were the first boat on that creek since the ore days if that area was mined. You see the clearing at roads end just nw of the arrow in Gabe's map.Thats a prime recording spot of Whips.a very remote area it be.I used to drag a canoe across the creek there and drag it to the tulpe up that trail.Too far of a journey for the old man I've become but when I was young i used to do it:)
