I read somewhere that the Factory Branch was named for an iron furnace that was run somewhere along the length of this river. It's located in the Forked River Mountains area. I'll have to check, but I believe it was mentioned in the "Tides of Time" Ocean County history book.

Has anyone else heard of an iron furnace in the FRM's?

I too read that somewhere Ben, but I don't think there is anythng too it. Was it Beck who mentioned the Frenchmen and the vinyard, or something like that?

Well the Frenchmen and the vinyard is established fact. Rutherford Stuyvesant imported the men and the grapes from France. Part of those old vines still grow near Eureka Gun Club.

I just wonder why the river is called "Factory" branch. Chaimberlan I can understand - but why factory?
