Sadly, I am sidelined for bow this year with this rotator cuff surgery recovery. I likely won't have full strength until next summer. I refuse to go the cross-bow route, because it is too easy. I call them string rifles. I don't make many friends by calling them that. :)

I'll be handgun hunting for deer in PA this fall. I'll be shooting my Smith 29 in .44 mag from a ground blind. My shoulder won't be ready for the .30-06 by then.

I tore my rotator cuff in 2013. A friend who had torn his rotator cuff handed me a book on self care for rotator cuff injuries. It was a Godsend. When you have healed enough, I would highly recommend you do stretching exercises. You can find examples on YouTube or on the web. These exercises only take a few minutes a day and they will speed your recovery by building strength and flexibility in your shoulder. I was able to heal completely in half the normal recovery time.

I am doing 5-6 different stretches twice per day, every day and PT twice per week. Progress is very slow but every few weeks I step back and say, "Well I couldn't do that a week ago". I am mentally prepared for the long haul and don't expect to get back to 100% for a year which brings me up to July 2026.

I went squirrel hunting last Saturday with an H&R single-shot 20 ga. youth model. I bought it for my kids when they were little. I shot left handed and did fine. I am going to continue to small game hunt with it and even try to bag a few quackers with it. I have a variety of ammo for it including buckshot.
