Fire Camera

And that was a controlled fire. Imagine the heat on that windy day of the big fire this year. I was out there yesterday. The regeneration is well underway.

Does anyone know what these brown dragon flies are named? I did not have the patience to get a good photo. They were very abundant along the stream, fighting each other and zooming around. And only this one specie. What was great was there were no pine flies. I assume the fire destroyed their eggs. Much of the sphagnum was burned at the edge of the swamp.

Speaking of flies, how are Pine flies, Deer flies, Black flies and Strawberry flies related? I think Pine flies and Deer flies are the same species but I am not sure about Strawberry flies.

According to Howard Boyd, deer flies are Chrysops delicatulus, and my money says they are also called pine flies locally. I don't know the strawberry fly. I know the deer fly unfortunately. :(
