I was derailed on my way home from my annual Good Friday freshwater fishing trip. I was coming back from Port Elizabeth and couldn't turn onto Union off of 49. When I got into Vineland, all the way up near Wheat, the smoke was visible and the smell was strong. Winds were hard south all day today.

Mostly White oak in the more open areas with loads of Scarlet Oak growing under the pines.Gorgeous in fall in this area. I haven't really noticed any leatherleaf in the spungs though wouldn't surprise me if it's there just havent been looking for it.Lot of vernal ponds as you can see and I"ve been in most of em..Most are floored with sphagnum. There are some rare plants in a few of them but I"m not an expert on them. A real nice stone in that area though.I"m sure Guy has a pic of it.Rumored to be possibly a few rattlers left in the area as well?

I was pretty near that area when I took the long way home through Peaslee after grocery shopping around 8:00 AM yesterday morning. No signs of fire or smoke at that time.

That's a name I always wondered about...

No idea where it got that name.Never heard it called that till the state bought it and I grew up swimming in it illegally and lived within bike riding distance. We just called it Moreys pit.I think Morey owned it.he does own the one further south still in use.
