Forest fires in Central Jersey!?

Well not quite. On my way home I had to pick up dry cleaning, so I took a detour off of Route 130 into Hamilton proper (I live on the outer fringe near the Burlington County border) and I noticed a haze in the air. When I got to the dry cleaner I noticed a VERY strong smell, as if someone was burning a huge pile of leaves right next to me. The smell was just as strong if not stronger 10 miles away at my house. Funny-I posted before about not spending enough time in the pines lately. It seems the smell of the pines came to me-albeit a little burnt.

I noticed the smokey haze today (I live near mt. Misery) I figured it was controlled burning but my wife called as she was driving home from on 206 near Columbus and commented on the same thing. I guess it was a controlled burn afterall, wow all the way from bass river huh!

I saw them doing a controlled burn near the tracks that cross 539 in Whiting last night. I understand that all controlled burning is supposed to be done by March 30th, unless special circumstances arise, so there should be plenty more in the next week.
