Last Wednesday I decided to pay a visit to the Mountain since I hadn't been there for awhile. It was a perfect day to be in the pines; 77 degrees, clear skies, nice breeze. The road was passable in my car, with only a few soft sandy areas between Rt 539 and mountain. It's been very dry, so there were no flooding problems.
After hiking around for an hour or so, it was time to play . The iPAQ running OziExplorer CE had a good fix on my position
So did the 60csx, but there's no comparison between them when it comes to map or image quality.
I was surprised to find a very strong 3g data signal up on the mountain, so Google maps nailed my position easily on the iPhone.
I also tried a new iPhone application called "Earthscape" which is very impressive if you have a good data connection. Like Google Earth on your phone. In addition to flat views, you can view in 3d and fly around.
Next it was time to take a few pictures...
In that last picture, notice the odd bump which sticks up. Is that some sort of steep hill or just a grove of large trees? Here's a closer view.
And of course no trip to the mountain would be complete without a shot of the airship hangar!
Finally, what are these cranes in the distance? They look very large. Are they putting up new power lines? Windmills? Communications towers?
All in all, it was a great day in the pines. I hope everyone had a chance to get out during the Labor Day weekend too - I did. But the time flew by too quickly...
