I was out in the FRM's last night, coming in from 539 near Eureka. Driving towards Aserdaten I saw that the forest had been thinned severely on each side of Jones Rd. I almost didn't recognize things. Anybody know what's up with that?

The Forest Service is creating 12 foot firebreaks on each side of the road so they can get big vehicles in there in case of fire. They likely see it as a place to make a stand too, to try and stop a fire.
