All,

Bobpbx and I did some exploring in the Great Swamp today, preparing for something we will tell you about at a later date. Our first stop was a wet area where we found this Lanced Leaved Violet.

While trying to photograph this in the swamp, I heard the familiar sound of a Pine Barren Tree Frog right near me that seemed rather soft. I was not certain of it’s location so I stood there and waited for another call while Bob roamed around looking for plants. When he returned I still had not heard it to narrow it’s location down. Eventually, we heard it again and pushed forward checking all the trees and bushes ahead of us, and soon we found it holding on like a Wallenda to a small branch.

Bob captured this shot after the frog tired of us and made it to the ground.

A closer look that to me is the best view of all. Nice one Bob!

From there we drove for a while taking side roads that mostly lead to swamps and large puddles in the road that we constantly had to check out before driving though. This was mudder area where driving alone on a Friday is not wise. We stopped to look for plants when I spotted this in the water nearby. It was not happy with us for sure!

And a video of the snapper in action. This is almost 20MB so give it time to load.

A great day to not be at work, and what better place to spend that day then in the pines with Bobpbx.

Yes, Guy's camera is a real beauty.

Guy, ain't if funny sometimes? We go out to prepare for a future fun day and we have a great day together kicking around out there in the low country. I honestly did not want to go home. The weather was cool and delicious, and we had that country all to ourselves! It makes me feel like I'm on top of the world on days like these. Guy is always a great exploring companion. He puts up with me poking into every nook and cranny. Here are a couple photos:

Uh oh, what is he up to?

Mystery photo. I'll bet like Gabe gets my beer each time, Guy guesses where this is:

Ahhh, so I think from that photo of Guy on the foot bridge it seems my recollection was pretty accurate (concerning our disscussion on this spot). Is that right?

Looks like you two had a great day in the Pines, nice pics from both of you, sure beats being in work. Isn't there a Bibly Tower missing in the Geodetic pic.?:D

Bob,

I see you were at the JCRR bridge. You missed the one on the other side :bang:

Jeff, yes you were correct.

Jim, They did not use the Bilby tower at that monument.

Glo, It may look grumpy but it was really good for us. Just sat there. I think maybe our moving of the branch it was on may have caused it to move to the ground. But it jumped right back up to a branch as we were leaving.

If the weather is semi nice tomorrow Jessica and I are going to ask my father-in-law along to look for more frogs. We are going to take our chairs and wait them out until we can zero in on one as we did yesterday.

I was out there last weekend looking for blossoms. They are getting the bogs ready. Looks like the bogs at the intersection of Jenkins and Chatsworth. A guy and a gal in a Honda were out walking around this bog.

Great pictures.

He's plenty cute but the grumpiest frog I've ever seen. I can hear him muttering, "Paparazzi guy!"

Glo

Looks to me like the wonker just woke up after a night of prolonged wonking. :)

Beautiful thread. Nothing like a scheduled work day instead spent in the pines.

BTW, Bob and Guy ... you two are now qualified to join the WFC. Let me know if interested, I'll put you on the list.

Yes 46er, but this one was at Sim Place, where the turn in the Red Road is on the way to Oswego Lake from 72.

PS: I had 35 ticks on my clothes that I pulled off during the trip, and 5 on my skin when I stripped at home. The only one itching was under my arm pit. Don't you all just hate that?

I was there a few weeks back on a weekday watching about 10 or 15 men separate the plants. I was told it will take about three years before the production get up. The men sit on a vehicle and put the plants in manually as they drive around. It takes 6 men about a week to do it.

I had only about two ticks on me out there and have found none here on me or in my car. I have to believe wearing my oil soaked works clothes did the trick. I have found a new tick repellant by accident and may become rich. :D Or maybe Bob was right when he commented he was in the front all the time blazing the trail

I have always been a fan but until yesterday never really saw one. I tried one other time but was unsuccessful. I will be spending more time doing that now. I will be having more time on the weekends to do just that.

So Bob and I are now entered to be the fifth and sixth member. Who will be next if we are accepted??? Thanks for the offer Bill!

Yep, that's the one west of the intersection by the gate.

Tick bites, the gift that keeps on giving. :argh: Armpits are better than other pits.

Maybe we can name a new insecticide after Bob, we can call it "Bobmithrin":D
