Yeah, the tree must be pulling on it as it grows. Crazy.

I have read in a book some where that trees do not actually grow "up" but expand at their twig tips and expand in girth adding rings but say you make a chest level blaze today and come back in twenty years.The blaze will still be chest level but barely discernible as a scar that will be swallowed as the tree increases in girth.I have never made the experiment myself but I would dare say just the girth expanding on the tree could yank the vine tight like that.I think I can actually remember seeing that vine.I have walked through there so many times it probably caught my notice even if subconsciously.I know shortly the area will be ablaze with good smelling lavendar flowers.

What of this in the last photo. If that is a vine, it's super straight. If it's a vine, the tension it has to be under is enormous.

I used to do stuff like that. My buddy Don who passed away a few years ago, would gather all his cooking gear and his eggs and sausage and a folding table out to the remote woods behind Browns Mills. Just for a sunday morning breakfast. Then he'd pack it up and go home. Very cool.

Also the tree is leaning toward the open water to the left.as it leans for the sun it tightens its cable till it snaps or comes out by the roots

@BigWoollyMammoth - Your pictures are great and I'm sure everyone appreciates them. But they are way too large, some are as big as 8 MB and almost all are over 3 MB - you have posted around 200 MB of photos in this thread. I don't want to discourage you from sharing your pictures, but this is just too much - Ben has limited disk space on the NJPB server.

There are many ways to reduce the size, just ask if you don't know how. I suggest reducing the dimensions to around 800 pixels wide (you can make them larger if there's a good reason, like important small details). Individual pictures should be smaller than 1 MB each, I would try to keep them in the range of 100 KB - 200 KB each if possible.

Made an account just to post to this forum I was just at fries mill yesterday and went back in June in June I saw a bunch of dudes with construction equipment with acetylene torches cutting up all the metal back there and I noticed that the big metal thing in the corner of the water was missing also.

Yeah I know most of the metal that was back there from the plant is being cut up for scrap but I only recently found the tavern. I had no idea where to look or where to begin I was only informed about the potter cabin and tavern but thanks to you guys. I didn't know it continued all the away around and I've mapped out old Bailey town and I'm going to use what ever pieces I have here to map out and pin each location. I also heard there was another house site on the left side of the tracks instead of heading right to the tavern.

FWIW, I have shown the historical location of Baileytown structures that I could determine on my 2020 and 2023 topo. For the 2023 map, I used the standard USGS convention of just showing an outline of buildings that no longer exist

Boyd they just wiped that cellar hole out along with the Brady cellar acorss the street a couple years ago when they re did the rifel range.They took a bulldozer in there and flattened it all out.The cellar in your photo is now right square in the middle of the range and completely gone.What a love our state expresses for it's own history:-(
The Brady hole is visible in your map bottom left corner,it also is gone now and snow hill rd has been destroyed and barricaed at the wood line at the north end of the ranges.you can no longer drive thru from Battle Lane to Ackley.All the field they had immediately to the east and they had to destroy two historical cellar holes and a good usable rd.

PS I know the locations to about forty different cellars out in Bevan WMA,most can be found looking on the 1940 aerials.

There is a burnt out wreck next to the main drag in from Schooner landing.Discovered it on a PBX hike I led through there many years ago now.I"ll see if I can pin it.It's just out of site of the main drag.
