Isn't it a shame that wild mushrooms have to be so hard to identify?
I love mushrooms and wish you could just pick and eat freely from the woods without fear of being killed totally dead.
I have had them pop up several times, always on the stump of a fallen tree; some within a year or 2, others many years later and in the middle of a grassy area where a tree once stood. The closest I could come to identity was the genus Armillaria, commonly called Honey Mushroom, but mushrooms being mushrooms, I would not eat one.
