It can be hard for residents to find a public area to cool off in the summer, but with the increased rain fall this year, the geese are creating a larger problem in some South Jersey lakes. Poo-lution.
The fecal content that geese produce is on the rise and is affecting public swimming areas. The acceptable level of fecal coliform bacteria is around 200 colonies per
100 milliliters of water.

I was stricken with 2 ear infections after swimming in the Barnegat Bay a few years ago. I won't swim in that toilet again.

Geese deserve a small part of the blame for poor water quality but get more than their fair share due to being more visible (and often louder) than the other sources. Development within the watersheds draining into the bay, along the non-permeable surfaces that come with it, is the main cause. Both natural and human-created pollutants get washed into the bay before being broken down or trapped by vegetation. Much of the waste left by geese and other wildlife on a saltmarsh or other natural area gets broken down into nutrients used by the plants while anything on paved or concrete surfaces, as well as sand beaches, goes right into the water.

Scott,

I have to ask about the three men to the right of you. Unless the photo is deceptive they have to be really really tall since you tower over me quite a bit. That man on the right does not even have a tall hat on and he is taller than the man next to him. What water have they been drinking, or is it the beer??

I am about 5' 11", the guy next to me is about 6' 3", the next about 6' 1" and the end guy is about 6' 3". My son, far left, is the runt at about 5'-10".
The three tall guys live in different areas so I can't say it's the water. It just may be the beer !
