Damn, they screwed up the format again. Cluttered up the field by trying to give more than is needed. If anyone knows how to get rid of the search box in the upper left corner, let me know please.

Its been that way for some time. Tried to find a way, but found nothing except a lot of complaints from folks using smartphones as it really gets in the way for those little things. I just use Bing maps.

I did go so far and right click on it and 'inspect element' then deleted them and got it removed, but it comes back when you move the map.

At the bottom right click on the ? and choose "Return to Classic Google Maps." Then again click on "Return to Classic Google maps." The map will return to the classic view and after you use the map for a few seconds a message will come up saying:

"You have switched back to classic Google Maps for this session. Remember this choice for next time?" Yes or Dismiss. Choose yes and you will get classic every time.

Thanks Guy. I now remember you had that advice before but I forgot about it. Something happened to my profile this week, I even had to re-log into this site, so whatever happened made me lose all my preferences and passwords, including my preference for the classic.
