I was thinking this was about our Great swamp I was at this one last winter.Saw the biggest tree I have ever seen.called the swamp oak.I have a pic of it somewhere, would take at least four people to reach around it.it is in a park adjacent to the NWR.
I've known Dr. DeVito for many years and will be at the Great Swamp Gala tomorrow night. In fact, often when I try and call him on his cell phone, he is "somewhere in the Pine Barrens." We have had many great adventures in the pines looking for pine snakes with our kids or checking out birds or other critters. If you ever get a chance to hear Emile speak, I recommend you do so, because he is funny, engaging, knowledgeable and passionate about the connections between nature and humans in the pines. He is quoted quite a bit in the book The Ecological Pine Barrens of New Jersey: An Ecosystem Threatened by Fragmentation by the late, great Howard Boyd.
Then you should also attend Spung-Man's presentation next Wednesday night. Oji, myself, and Jessica will be there as well as Spung-Man obviously. Pre register for $10.
Teegate, would love to on Wednesday. However, I will be just getting back from a trip and have another commitment that night. Trust me, I already looked at the presentation and where it is at. The date/time and am disappointed I can't go. Plus, I'm a geek love this stuff and want to meet all of you! I'll probably be at the upcoming kid Batsto event (that you posted) as well as the overcrowded cranberry festival.
Emile deserves our accolades and Piney Power support. I'm driving the +2.5 hours each way from Vineland to Morristown should anyone wish to share a ride.
Over 350 people showed up to honor DeVito at the swank Westin Governor Morris up in Morristown, NJ. Many were involved with the Great Swamp Watershed Association, which is touted as the top preservation organization in the Northeastern States. It was truly touching to see the respect Emile commanded for his work throughout the New Jersey – not just the Pine Barrens. It was interesting to learn his academic career trajectory was geared towards applied physics before the Pines forever changed him! Imagine “A-Meal” as a Sheldon Cooper’s sidekick in an alternate universe version of The Big Bang Theory. Disturbing...
Sorry I missed it, Did you hear the joke about the Italian Physicist..................Today I did sign up for next months Pine Barren Hall of Fame ceremony.
Hey Big Bang Theory is a most excellent show. Please post future events on here. I love them. I am glad he was honored. He deserved it!! Thanks Spung for the update.
Drexel has a small field office on the Warren Grove bombing range property. The students were probably doing some field work on pine snakes, as I know that they have at least 1 snake equipped with a radio transmitter.
