Hey all,

Noticed yesterday when redneck posted about wma closures a interesting item on the state website. It looks like they may be doing work on the big chunk of Greenwood west of 539. Anyone have any further details?

Not sure but maybe something similar to the thinning that was done at Washington Turnpike and a couple spots in Brendan Byrne.

I notice they list "Conserve Historic Resources" as one of their goals. There are at least two historical property stones in that section that they need to preserve. I don't see anywhere that they are asking for the public's opinion. The only contact link is the basic DEP address.

One of them is the beginning corner of Thomas Folks 50 acres. I am pretty sure it dates back to 1766 or earlier.

Does anyone have a good email address for Fish and Wildlife?

On Washington Turnpike they are using a good sized machine and I think it has tracks. It would be good to have these stones marked so they don't get damaged.

All,

I was able to get in touch with the proper individuals with the help of a member of this site as well as a few others. The DEP is interested in knowing the location of the stone and want to protect it. I have a conference call later this week with them.

Since I have not been there in a while I figured we would go today and check it out. The last time we were there was over 10 years ago and there was a path cut through the woods right by it. Today, that path has mostly grown over and the place is pretty wild. I can see why they want to maybe thin and cut trees, if that is what they plan on doing. I don't know yet. Here is the path in.

I dug into the ground to see more of the stone.

The map of the land being disturbed is close to that little girl's grave too, right?
It does not effect it though. I really does not interfere with anything I know about except a few stones and monuments.

Rather than start a new post here is more from today. Went to one of our best sites and was not disapointed. I was happy with this one since most of my gentian photos are not that great. There were about 25 of them in two locations close to each other. This is private property.

This was early this morning at the Parker Preserve.

I had a phone conversation today with a representative of the DEP and sent off the coordinates to the stones in the area they will be working. So hopefully they come out of this intact.
