Blueberry lovers heading to the Haines Berry Farm in Pemberton Township to pick their own will notice nothing different from last year.
The picking of plump Jersey Fresh blueberries has begun as it has every year, but the farm's status has been solidified.
The 158-acre Haines Berry Farm, which also has cranberries in the fall, was one of 10 farms approved for preservation in Burlington County last week at a cost of $6.3 million for a combined 1,060 acres.
The Board of Freeholders gave final approval for the farms at its meeting Wednesday as it continues a 30-year program to preserve agriculture..
The 10 farms are mainly in county farm belts and produce berries, vegetables and grain.
The county will pay $261,000 to preserve 158 acres of the Haines Berry Farm in the Pinelands of Pemberton Township, saving it and the other farms from future commercial or housing development through county, state and federal funds.
