Poked around the Upper Forge site and made this little map:

Nice work! I had wondered if the feeder canal was of the iron era or the cranberry era. It seemed to be a feat of civil engineering larger than some of the other nearby manmade features, similar scale to the canal that was used during the cranberry era to bypass the furnace pond on the Batsto.

The canal feeds into the raceway downstream of the dam, so it would have been to deliver more waterpower to the forge.
