Gen-exer here too! And, thank god I didn't cut my teeth on Madonna, Duran Duran or the Cure! Rather, Black Sabbath, Hendrix and the Doors!! Although, now I enjor David Grey, Dios Malos and Badly Drawn Boy.

That is quite the contrast from Black Sabbath. My grandmother was a fan of his, and I remember her getting a book on him for Christmas. We would watch his show all the time as kids and enjoy it. When I became older I remember reading he was somewhat of a tyrant.

I was offered a job to play Tony Iommi (guitarist of Black Sabbath) in a tribute band once. I'm a big black sabbath fan, but I turned it down 'cause I always thought tribute bands were kind of creepy. Yeah, the music in the 80's was horrible. Thank God it was still cooler to listen to Zep that Posion.

Ok so I was born in late '81, what does that make me? Y? Z? 
It's really interesting to see the varied musical tastes on the board. I've been floating through different genre's for years at this point but I've established somewhat of a base of what I listen to now. When I was a kid it was nonstop country (92.5 WXTU which I'm sure many of you are acquainted with) since I didn't have control of the radio dial...lol Then I sort of rebelled and went through my Metal/Grunge phase-to this day Stone Temple Pilots, Metallica, Guns N Roses, and Alice in Chains all bring back found memories of my high school days of smoking in the bathroom, caring little about academic success, skipping school to go 4 wheeling (guess where!), and generally living without a care in the world.
Then I got into the Dave Matthews Band which slowly brought me back to my country roots. Boyd Tinsley's fiddle is what did it I think, you just don't get that kind of sound from Pantera... Now I spend most of my time listening to various forms of country which gets more and more unique everyday it seems. Any of you who have XM or Sirius radio need to tune in to the alternative country stations they have on those channels. They have tons of phenomenal stuff you'll never find on terrestrial radio. Drive by Truckers, Shooter Jennings (son of Waylon), The Reverend Horton Heat, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Hank Williams III, Old '97s, Southern Culture on the Skids, etc... And of course my favorite alt-country guy which my location refers to-anyone want to take a guess?
How this turned into a post about how alt-country rocks I don't really know but those of you who haven't tried it should check it out. It's basically all about thumbing your nose at the Nashville establishment and embracing those that did like Hank, Willie, Johnny, and George.
So what generation am I again?

Dave, you like Doc Watson? Great stuff!! I play alot of his stuff. One of the best bluegrass (new grass) albums of all time is " Will the Circle be unbroken" by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Doc watson is on there, so is Merle Travis and Earl Scruggs. The quintessential bluegrass album I think. Worth a listen.
