Mount Holly NJ
Hello All,

I moved to NJ from from england about 6 months ago and now that the weather is getting nicer its time to dust of the boots and go hiking. I was suprised at how hard it has been to find any decent information on outdoor activites in the pine barrens. Then I stumbled onto this site which appears to have everthing you could every want to know about the area. I am planning on going Apple Pie Hill sometime during this week and would appreciate a little information on the area.

Firstly, where is the nearest safe parking area to the hill? Secondly, (and I hope im not breaking forum rules here) could someone privde me with specific directions too the area. Im coming from Mount Holly. I plan to walk from the along the Batona Trail towards Caranza Memorial a little just to get a feel for the area.

Once again, this is a great site which seems to have a freindly and helpfull community. Hopefully I will fit in well.

Tom

Believe it or not, I have never been to Apple Pie Hill. But I understand that there is a parking area there.

As far as directions go, you can ask directions to "commonly known" places without breaking any rules. It's only the "at-risk-from-being-destroyed" places that we try to not publicize.

Tom,
You can drive your vehicle right up on Apple Pie. Once there you can climb the fire tower, for one of the best views in the Pines.

From Mt Holly get on 206 and go south. Go around the circle at route 70 and continue south on 206. About a mile after you pass 70, 206 will start turning to the right. Get in your left lane at the curve and turn left on Carranza road. It is a new intersection and very easy to turn into the wrong lane. Be careful.

Travel down that road and you will pass the high school on your left, and the cemetery on your right. At the first stop sign turn left. You are now on 532. Travel on that for about 8-9 miles and start looking on the right for a street sign that says Ringler Ave on it. There will be two brick pillars there that are in bad shape. Turn in there and when the paved road turns to dirt, follow the dirt road. If you stay on that road it will take you right up the hill to the fire tower. You can make it up with no problem even in a car.

The Batona trail crosses right over the hill, and for a short distance on the road you travel in on, the trail follows it.

Make sure you climb the tower, and enjoy the view.
