Hiked in to the Highland Park Gun Club the other day and found the ruins of the well and the foundation that are southeast of the dam. Does anyone have any information about what might have been here? It’s mentioned quite a few times on the forum, but nothing specific.

Sorry, I have no real insights but turned these up with a quick search (looks like there are more too)

Guy posted a Google Maps link here

I have aerials going back to the 1970's for that location, but can't really see much detail on them.

BTW, what was this building near there? House? Gun Club? It shows clearly in the 70's and 80's, not sure about the 90's but apparently gone by 2000. Looks like it was there since the 1930's.

This link may be of help. I am sure the Prince family had something built there unless it was the Post family before 1843 but the ruins look more modern. Then again we can’t forget the gun club may have built something but I doubt that.

Very cool! Somehow I must have missed that thread before. Interesting, I still show ownership by the Highland Park Gun Club because my data is from 2020, which always lags a few years behind recent sales. It is very odd that the PPA bought that property.

But that confuses me further... was this the location of the Highland Park Gun Club, or was it the place on the East side of the lake with the well?

[edit] Looking closer, I see that old building was actually on lot 49, which is state-owned

Nice. I had seen the other post and several like it but missed the one from Guy locating the foundations hidden under the brush. Need to go back to see that.

If I’m not mistaken, the building at 39.656328, -74.468826 is the Highland Park Gun Club itself. Oriental describes it here: https://forums.njpinebarrens.com/threads/franks-ford-tub-mill-and-amatol.4243/#post-43186. I had searched in the open area that he described, but found no foundations there. Definitely need to go back!

I don't have the actual survey of the property but the larger ruins with the gun club are on block 77 lot 50 as far as I can tell. And the private property signs run all in front of the ruins.

I posted this before. It shows the state monument on the SW corner of the property. You can see the private property signs which run towards the hillside at the intersection. Again, I don't know the exact line as I don't have the survey.
