Boas do take to water though not to the extant an Anaconda does.To see one swimming would not be odd at all.All snakes can swim. The pic is of a Boa Constrictor though I understand that is not Hoppy.

While Lake Hopatcong’s boa constrictor may be real, a newly surfaced photo of the elusive snake is nothing more than an Internet hoax.
The photo — a large snake sliding through the northern part of the lake with a boat and shoreline in the background — was posted on a finance blog Monday night, but the producer confirmed Tuesday that the photo was manipulated in Photoshop.
Even though the photo was a trick, reptile expert Gerald Andrejcak, who has been called on by animal control to capture the reported 10- to 14-foot snake, said the snake on the loose is more than just a hoax.

In high school, the highlight of the year was the Christmas party at my track coaches' house. They had a pet boa that ran loose, it would coil around his wife and cuddle - gave me the creeps. Then one day it was gone. He never did find out where it went….

When I was a young lad I caught a garter snake on a family outing and hid it in my Davy Crockett coonskin hat for the ride home. When we got home it wasn't in the hat. Never found it.

We caught tons of garter snakes up at my Dad's place in Quebec when I was a kid. I nearly always ended up damaging their tails and feeling bad about it for days.

Reptile expert abandons search for Lake Hopatcong anaconda

"I know what I saw," Andrejcak has said. "They can deny it all they want, but I think this is more political right now. They're trying to discredit me. That's fine, do what you want."
