Very cool Scott. Must have taken a lot of force and a strong anchor at each end to pull all the sag out of those chains. Cool map of the Province of Carolina, that was some really wild country in 1711! When you think of the of grand scheme of things, 300 years wasn't so long ago.

I have handled a few Bob at surveyor's conventions. Chain link thickness can vary but I would say the average Gunter's chain weighs about 3-4 lbs.
