How to research land deeds from the 1700-1800's?

Howdy Folks,
I live in Waretown, NJ and our town was founded around the mill of Abraham Waier built around 1739 (?) Does anyone know how I might go about researching a land deed/grant?

Go to the clerks office in Toms River. The only deeds online in Ocean County only go back a few decades. But first call them and see if they have info that far back.
