I have a trumpet vine on a tree on my property. I tried a few times last year to catch these moments on my point and shoot camera with no luck. A few hours of camping out on an eight foot step ladder with the 300mm lens have paid off. Large sizes found here.

These blooms go through the most amazing geometric origami like process of unfolding.

The flowers by themselves are very pretty.

But what they attract is even prettier. Single point focus... for the win.

Male only seen once so far. He landed to check me out early one morning.

I added 2 pics above. It would be remiss of me to not mention the Chirping Sparrow that is fantastically upset about my lurking around the tree with her nest of chirping young. I would walk away every once in a while to let her feed her chicks.

"A few hours of camping out on an eight foot step ladder . . ."

You say it so calmly, although it couldn't have been easy. But what a rich reward! The detail is incredible, even to the feathers on the birds and the look in their eyes. The glimpse into the trumpet's throat is like peering into a magical land. Thank you for spending those hours aloft!
