Looking to camp at Wharton... I've lurked and searched here to see what everyone says about a few of the camping areas I have in mind but I've only gotten more indecisive... I have some camping experience and don't mind a more "primitive" or private campsite, but the people coming with are less erm, rugged we'll say. I hate being on top of the sites next to me and I hate big open sites. Just hoping to get some opinions, as I haven't been to Wharton since I was a kid, which I think was to Hawkin or Godfrey. Thanks in advance.

Nic, why not go to the camps and check them out before you book them? I actually never camped at one, but if I was going to, I'd check them out since any day in the pines is a good day.

That did occur to me and I ultimately probably will... Still open to personal experiences from anyone who has them. Thanks though, def good to check it out myself.

I have lived 50' from the Wharton boundary for the past 30 years but have only camped in Wharton at a designated camping area twice.

The first time was in 1976 at Goshen Pond and we drove into our site.
The next time was in 1979 and we backpacked into Lower Forge from Batsto. That was the most memorable and enjoyable trip.

If you can talk your friends into an easy hike from Batsto to Lower Forge, I think you will thoroughly enjoy it.

All areas are open and you pitch where you want to inside the designated area.I know of no really private sites that cant be seen from the others.I know some very private sites but their not legal.
