Jakes Branch County Park -Ocean County

Beautiful hike if you've never done it. We did just over four miles on the blue and white trails (just over 8 miles of trails total).

My favorite part of the hike was, due to fires and controlled burns, you get to walk through pitch pine forests of various ages, which makes for a very interesting couple of hours.

Visitor center is well worth checking out, if only for the view from the observation deck.

A good one this Saturday;

Bob Birdsall Lecture and Book Signing

STREAMING THE RIVERS AND CREEKS OF THE BARNEGAT BAY WATERSHED

Working under an EPA grant in conjunction with The Barnegat Bay Partnership, Terry O’Leary and

Bob Birdsall explored, documented and photographed the 20 rivers and creeks that fl ow into the

Barnegat Bay Watershed. Each river and stream is documented from its headwaters to the mouth of

the bay. The project’s objective is to increase the public’s awareness of the impact these waters have

on the health of Barnegat Bay. The project will allow the public, by use of an interactive smart phone

app and GPS coordinates to retrace Bob and Terry’s steps and visit any or all of the more than 180

locations along the way. Join Bob as he presents a slide show of the photographs taken during the

project and a narrative of history and other facts concerning each location. Registration is required.

Terry O’Leary is a well known naturalist and educator and a member of the Pine Barrens Hall of Fame.

Bob Birdsall is a well known Pine Barrens author/photographer who as written and produced two

photography books on the Pine Barrens: Season of the Pines and People of the Pines.
