Pines; Bamber area
The family had split and none of my friends wanted to go out in the pines, so I went to the plains by myself. I damn near bought the farm again in rugged woods, was so hot I sweated out a quart. Here is how thick the woods were:

I was so hot I had to go over to the pond by the bombing range and jump in. I saw the biggest heron I have ever seen and snuck up on him:

He was so huge his flight was heavy and ungainly, like a 747 fully loaded with fat New York tourists. He sure was big:

The road home. I love the roads in the plains:

Near Mt. Misery
That is one big heron! That pond near the bombing range sure is inviting to jump into isn't it?I have this book that I bet you have also,"the vegetation of the New Jersey pine barrens" If you go to page 143 there is a picture of watering place pond taken in 1912.
