We really have dreadfully awful fire reporting. It's like the citizens are totally blind on how big it is, how much is contained, what direction is it heading, what did it do overnight, etc, etc. It should not be this way.

Also, regarding the same about fire reporting, news outlets will always suck at it, because they want you to give them your email in order to "continue reading". A crisis is perfect for them to try and gain more subscribers. Once you're in, you'd have to fight through the ads in order to determine if your family is safe or not, or what action you should take.

We need citizens throughout the state who will feed all the information into a free, central monitoring outlet for the latest fire information.

I use https://www.sectionb10.org/ for info. They report on all the section fires. You have to scroll way down the page, but they are informative. I’m guessing this is separate from the previous since they gave it a new name and kept the report of the other fire up.

One of the best maps available for the woods.

Actually this is the best map. Created by my granddaughter when she was still in kindergarten (she's in high school now). I printed maps of the little trails on my property and we did "treasure hunts" on her visits. So, she made her own ("this is a map") from her home on the "NooYrk Side" to Grandpa's house in the "wuds" (woods). :D

OK, sorry for taking this serious thread farther off-topic. I agree there should be an official site for info on any hazards that could affect us - guess I just assumed there was such a place. That's the kind of thing we're supposed to depend on the government for, not commercial websites or cable networks. It also concerns me the degree to which government is outsourcing infrastructure to big tech companies like AWS (amazon). I get it... private companies are doing it better for less money. But there just seem to be some fundamental conflicts of interest.

My wife has been staying at my son’s house babysitting our youngest grandson a mile and a half north of the Kettle Run fire since Wednesday night. The wind from the northwest and west made all the difference and she dodged that bullet. I stayed hear last night and I’ll be going home tomorrow night while my sister-in-law holds down the fort with dogs at our house.

The NJ Forest Fire Service has done an unbelievable job of controlling these fires, especially under these historic drought conditions. I really thought the Marlton fire was going to result in evacuations or something worse. The predicted increase in winds for Friday did in fact happen but yet the fire was controlled and contained by the end of the day on Friday.

I have a good friend in the NJ Forest Fire Service and he has never seen conditions like this in all of his career. He has been working unimaginable hours for the last several weeks and it’s not getting any easier.

Last night in the span of 2 hours my son had 3 separate calls for smoke in the area. With all the fires and cold temperatures there was heavy smoke conditions all over. The rain will be a very welcome sight.

My daughter's boss just sent photos from Route 55 and there is a new fire burning somewhere. The mile marker is in the photo but it is blurry.
