Lake Trail (Harrisville Pond)

Went out and hiked the Lake Trail by Harrisville Pond last weekend. Much shorter than I expected (only 3/4 of a mile), but makes for a nice four mile loop with the Batona and Martha Road. Saw a turtle, but couldn't get a good shot.

On a related note, what is up with the bridge at Martha? I was trying to figure out how it ended up a roller coaster. A vehicle that was too heavy go across it? Flash flood?

I would say flood. It is hard to believe but there were huge islands at that bridge years ago and they have been completely washed away from floods over the years.

Here are the islands next to the bridge. There were larger ones out of view upstream. This was developed in January 1974. Most likely it was 1973 which may make it my first visit there.

Thanks Guy. Looking at the little rivers out there during normal times, its hard to believe that water could get enough oomph to damage a bridge. But look at them at flood stage and they are very powerful.
