Ummm.... Guess you didn't notice this, but at least one generation ago, the authorities began using piloted aircraft of various types for law enforcement, search and rescue, etc.
Since we are here discussing the matter, it would appear Civilization-As-We-Know-It has survived.
Apart from being non-piloted, or remotely piloted craft, how does the use of drones for the same purpose differ ?
If they were not called "drones" would you feel better about them ??
I don't want to empower government to maintain that level of surveillance on me.
When your handset is powered on, it connects to nearby cell towers to signal its proximity, so that the towers can rapidly route a call when it comes through. Law enforcement can use pen/trap devices to monitor these connections, or “pings”, to pinpoint the physical location of the handset, sometimes within a few meters. And although Congress has made clear that pen/trap orders alone cannot be used to authorize this sort of location surveillance, it hasn’t yet clarified what type of court order would suffice. So, although many courts have chosen to require warrants for location tracking, others have not, and the government has routinely been able to get court authorization for such tracking without probable cause.
Privacy is dead already, regardless of whether you see drones circling overhead. How about this? http://gpstracklog.com/2012/04/how-...phones-location-without-a-search-warrant.html
Here's a list of how location data is being used in different NJ towns from the ACLU link in the article above (click on "Response to public records request" for your town): https://www.aclu.org/protecting-civ...-phone-location-tracking-documents-new-jersey
Just one of many reasons not to use a cell phone.
