Saw this on craigs list
Hiking today my dog ran away. We were on apple pie hill, he ran towards white horse road.
He is tan w a white chest. Answers to Harry or Harrison. Sweet old man, great temperament. He's truly a family member.
I love him dearly. We can work out a reward if you really need that.

Hopefully the owner had the sense to leave a piece of his clothing and put up some posters. Gonna be a tough night for an old dog. My Brit CJ used to like to set out on her own at times when we hunted Greenwood. I got tired of looking each time, so would leave my hunting vest where she went missing, go have a bite to eat; she was always laying on it when I returned.

Pines; Bamber area
When Buddy was about 4 years old (and quite spry), he chased a deer while I was studying calculus in a lawn chair in a wooded section in those big fields West of 539. I hollered for him for 45 minutes, then called my wife to help me look. I left my jacket on the ground and headed for home when it started getting dark. When we got to B in the below photo, we found him. How he got from A to B has always puzzled me.

Each year I would run into someones pooch wandering around aimlessly, some just walking long 539. Fortunatley most had a contact tag, but some just had a license, others nothing. There was always at least one poster tacked to a tree at the parking areas. I always got the 'roll of the eyes' from my wife when I came home with more dogs than I left with.

Its surprising how much ground they can cover. My experience has been that most dogs will return to the spot they left their owner. The piece of clothing usually will keep them there until they get hungry, and that's when they really get lost. A lot of guys with dogs in training would keep a long lead on the dog. Thats a sure way to get them dead should they wander. The lead just gets tangled in the brush and unless the dog has a bell on, makes them very hard to find.

I hiked through Apple Pie Hill last night around 6pm and saw a headlamp and heard a male and female voice, which got my attention because I rarely ever see anybody else hiking after dark. Must have been the folks looking for their dog. Wish they would have alerted me. I would have helped them look.

Overnight in the cold and the snow with hungry coyotes in the area...that's not looking good for an elderly dog.

Did they ever find Harry? There is a sign on a pole by the boot camp.
The pines are under water with all the melt and no where to go.

From Craigs list
Wanted to let all the helping hands out there know that we found Harry. My partner and I can't express enough gratitude, thanks and appreciation to all the people that helped, prayed, posted, etc.
Never in a million years did we think the response would be so enormous.
Harry was found, on 532, in great shape.
Thank you again to everyone. We know that we can't possibly thank everyone personally, so we will do our best to 'pay it forward' as often as possible.
Thank you. -jenna & Darcy -- Harry & Wally

That is great news, especially on a night that's not fit for man nor beast; except maybe Snow Geese and Snowy Owls. Snow Buntings too.
