Hey guys...I just bought a lowrance xog gps...and it's my first gps. I was wondering if anyone else here has had any experience with this GPS...their instuction manual is seriously lacking in info, and although through some research I've got the basics on it, but am having major problems putting maps on it and getting it's software to upgrade....If anyone has any tips for using this I'd really appreciate it...seems like It would be a great GPS for the trails in the pines...once I figure out how to use it...

Evidently it has been discontinued: http://www.lowrance.com/Products/Automotive/XOG/

Here are a couple threads from GPSReview:

Curious as to why you got this model - was it the price? On this site I think you will find most people have Garmin units, although a couple have Magellan Triton's. Garmin has the advantage of a growing number of of grassroots free maps, such as these: http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/ and also my Map of the Pines which you can download here: http://forums.njpinebarrens.com/showthread.php?t=5929

Unfortunately, these will only work on Garmin units. There is no map compatibility between different brands. Each manufacturer has their own, proprietary map format.

That's a good price - I got an Nuvi 205 about a year ago on sale for $130 and that was about the best you could do. Yes, it should work well with my maps. But remember, it is not shockproof or waterproof, and doesn't have interchangeable batteries - expect about 3-4 hours run time.

I was just given a Nuvi 1350t and have been putting it through its paces. Some very nice features, and others which I definitely don't like. For some reason, it will not correctly render the LC version of the Map of the Pines. Also does a poor job with most topo maps using the standard Garmin symbols (including Garmin topo). It treats wetland areas the same as water, so it looks like much of the pines is a huge lake! It also renders elevation contours as very thick lines which could be confused with roads. However, the Nuvi version of the Map of the Pines looks very good on it.

One really nice improvement: like the Oregon and Dakota, you can add as many map files as you like and name them anything you want as long as they have a .img extension. So it's easy to have a bunch of maps loaded at the same time and choose between them. Too bad it doesn't correctly render most topo maps.

It's mostly for use in his car, with the wide screen I thought it was perfect for him. He doesn't have any now.

They are saying 1-3" if things go right, 3-6" if they don't. All for Saturday and night.

Hmm, for my area the National Weather Service says: "Saturday Night: Rain before 10pm, then a chance of snow between 10pm and 4am. Low around 28. North wind between 8 and 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible

They are saying the same thing for Chatsworth, Barnegat and other places in the area. Don't think I will bother tuning up the snow blower. :)

IMHO, NOAA is the worst for accuracy, our tax dollars at work. When I ran a boat, I kept a weather log, they were accurate on just 20% of their forecasts. I like Accuweather, if they are wrong, they lose business. The most accurate is my WeatherRock®.
