Illegal immigrants have rights too. They are an integral part of our economy. Where would we be without them?

I don't think so. You can't get many people in this country to do some of the work they do. They are an integeral part of this economy and always will be. The Mexicans in this area, not all illegal by the way, are about the hardest workers I've ever seen.

Steve

I gotta go with Tom and Sreve on this one. Having lived in Texas and South Dakota, both places where appreciable numbers of illegal aliens - mostly Mexicans and Central Americans - are significant and contributory to the economies , I think it truly immoral to cast aspersions on their desire to better themselves by working available jobs in the States.

If we want to reduce their numbers, then let your State Legislatures and your Representatives and Senators in Congress know that to stanch the flow of "illegals" into the U.S., all we need do is make the hiring of them a sufficiently onerous crime with sufficiently onerous penalties ( fines, jail time) that those hiring them will stop doing so and start hiring all the good, upstanding members of the U.S. labor pool who are clamoring for those same jobs.

And yes, as long as we do need them and hire them, they should certainly drive with benefit of a legal license and legal I.D., and their children should certainly attend our schools. It gripes my ass when a local dairyman, whose milking crews are mostly illegal mexicans, bitches about his kids having to share their school with the kids of "wetbacks."

Let's get a grip and really do what's right.

Personally I like it better around here when we talk about the pines. I can read and hear all I want about politics elsewhere...

I suppose that's why Largo started this thread under "general Discussion" Forum where any topic is admissible, so long as we keep it civil.

ALL,
I thought I might be sorry I started this. Please..... let's not go Mexican on this, I wasn't.

Also, I would hope that any of y'all that put up with the rigors of the six point system would see how crappy this is.

I was being facetious in my first replies. However, immigrants, be them legal or illegal, are an important part of our economic well being these days - this is true. I do agree with your amazement...for lack of a better word, though. I always thought that the word illegal meant what it spelled. However, if the 911 hijackers were provided with "illegal immigrant pilot privilige cards" we wouldn't be having this discussion.

The more one thinks about this though, the more sense it makes. The more illegal immigrants the government signs up with a "priviliged card" the closer the tabs the government can keep on them. Of course, those that are up to no good would simply forge it.

I'll leave it at this.
Thanks all for the input, and I continue to be happy to post in a friendly forum when at least anyone can agree to disagree. Good statements all.
